If there’s one thing the ‘80s did well (and to be fair, there weren’t that many), it’s those gigantic, stud-clasp earrings that all the women in Dynasty wore. And I love them.
I attended a church fair yesterday in the suburb of Devonport on the North Shore of Auckland, and besides lovely things like Devonshire Teas and barbecued prawn kebabs, the fair had mountains of clothing, shoes, bags, and jewellery. And we all know how much I love my jewellery. Anyway, I eventually wound up with four pairs of these fantastic ‘80s earrings, one dangling fish earring without a friend (this is OK, I have many earrings without friends, and love to pair them. It’s always fun to see how long it takes people to realise that you’re wearing two different earrings), and 4 chains of mardi gras beads for all of $5NZ. What a complete bargain.
I also acquired: 2 dresses, both green, a new leather belt, a cheese-cutter cap, 3 pairs of shoes (2 pairs of moccasins and one pair of heels), 2 shirts, 2 jumpers, a woollen maxi-dress (bizarre) and, joy of joys, a vintage Dannimac trenchcoat in perfect condition, and perfect fit.
It was a truly excellent day.
Anyway. I’m going to draw out the posting of all of the aforementioned items and give them one at a time. Today’s contribution? The most wonderful ‘80s earrings, colourful and huge (note: all of these are stud-clasp earrings, I can’t abide clip-ons).
